As the title already stated: the NOTP organization has released the first couple of names for the Antwerp and Rotterdam autumn tours.
The first pop artist is “Gavin DeGraw”. He’s an American artist and he’s mostly known to us for his hits Best I Ever Had , I don’t Wanna Be (theme song of tv series “One Tree Hill”) and In Love With A Girl. With his 38 he’s just under the 40 years Jan announced earlier to be the age limit. Earlier this year Gavin was touring with Shania Twain, who just turned 40. Could she be the headliner? We keep you posted!
We now have one pop artist, but we can’t let you go without already saying something about the first classical artist. His name is Fernando Varela and to football fans this might ring a bell. There were a Spanish and a Cape Verdean player with the same name. Luckily for us, Proms people, there is also a Fernando Varela who is an American tenor. His roots lie in Puerto Rico but he moved to the States when he was eight. He sure has some experience with the combination with
pop: here is a video of him performing. We have no clue what he will bring the Antwerp and Rotterdam audience, although chances are that Caruso might be in the list…
And finally we might have what could be called as a major announcement. The most famous conductor Robert Groslot won’t be joining us this year. In Antwerp and Rotterdam the conductor will be the Brazilian Alexandra Arrieche. She has already won a lot of prizes with international orchestras and she has a lot of experience. Last year alone she conducted performances with the Baltimore Symphony, the Hartford Symphony and a couple more. She also guest conducted with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, a world famous orchestra. She will continue Robert’s work to make the Proms even greater! She definitely is a worthy replacer. Here you can see her at work.
We would like to wish all artists, crew, etc.. a lot of succes but even more, a lot of fun with the preparations for the shows this fall. We're already looking forward to it!
